Asset Tag Labels
Asset tag labels are used across almost all industries to keep track of various office fixtures, computer equipment and industrial equipment. Because asset tag labels are meant to last as long as the asset they are affixed to the labels are made of all kinds many different materials. Labels are often made from paper to metal films and sheets depending on the environment that they are subjected to during their lifetimes.
Quantity ranges for Asset Tag Labels.
Asset Tag labels are made in quantities from one to the thousands. Normally the order quantity will be in the hundreds of pieces to be cost effective.
Sizes and Shapes for Assert Tag Labels
Asset tag labels come in any size and Shapes but the standard shape is rectangular and standard sizes available include:
- Standard Asset Tags - 2" x 1" for asset tags with barcode and 2-3 lines of text.
- Amall & Number Asset Tags - 1.5" x .75" for small asset tags with 2 lines of text only.
- Asset Tracking Tags - Often 8.5" x 11" or 8.5" x 14" sheets with a master label and sub-labels used to for tracking documents and related paperwork.
Asset Tag Label Materials and Finishes
Asset tags can be produced as sheets or rolls and can be produced on all kinds of paper and vinyl. Labels use a film over-laminate to protect the actual barcode image from damage and degradation. Asset Tag Labels use materials from paper to vinyls and polyesters to metallic films and anodized aluminum.

Asset Tag Label Ink, Adhesive and Printing Limitations
Typically asset tags and asset tag labels are digitally printed using thermal transfer, inkjet and Ion deposition technologies. Appropriate materials must be used that are image receptive. Because these labels are expected to last the life of the asset they are tracking, it is important to protect the barcode and human readable information from degradation. Often a lamination is applied over the image to protect the barcode and text. It is important to spec an over-lamination that will last the length of the asset tag. The other important consideration for asset tags is the adhesive. The environment an asset tag will be subjected to will determine the correct adhesive. Cold and hot environments, for example, will use different adhesives. All adhesives are rated for temperature range suitability.
Barcode Numbering and Human Readable Information for Asset Tags
Asset tags are printed using digital technologies and each asset tag has unique text and barcode information on the surface of the label. When supplying artwork to an asset tag manufacturer supply the information in a database like Excel or Access. If the label is also printed with graphics and other images supply both the database file and the Image art file. Adobe's Illustrator and In-design formats are preferred. Keep in mind that depending on the Barcode font being used and the reader technology being employed that the human readable fonts need to be large enough to be legible. Also the material being printed on must have enough reflectivity to be scan-able by the scanning device being employed. All Standard Barcode and asset tracking labels have formats and size limitations that are determined by the reader technology and the software being employed by the company implementing this technology.
